CONTEXT

About Sodick

Sodick is a Japan and USA hardware manufacturer of high-precision EDM machines and industrial equipment.

We built a SaaS platform from scratch to production for machine fleet management, programming and control, telemetry collection, analytics, supply and consumables tracking, and predictive maintenance.

The platform supports 100,000+ industrial and IoT machines and gives Sodick and its customers near-real-time visibility into machine health and operations.

PROBLEM, CHALLENGE

  1. Many support cases required Sodick engineers to travel on-site.

That was slow, expensive, and hard to scale for a global customer base.

    How we solved the problem

We introduced a secure cloud platform for remote diagnostics, support collaboration, and machine maintenance.

It connects Sodick support teams with customer hardware, while keeping the customer team in control of the process.

    • Major reduction of on-site travel for the support team
    • Secure remote connectivity for diagnostics and maintenance
    • Customer queue, notifications, chat, voice, and screenshare for remote support
  2. Sodick customers operate huge machine fleets across many locations, and machine downtime directly affects production.

Each machine emits axis data, sensor data, and uptime signals every second.

The volume is massive, security requirements are strict, and some sites have unstable internet connectivity.

    How we solved the problem

We built a scalable telemetry and analytics platform with secure data intake, near-real-time processing, and automated alerts.

The system collects data over OPC UA and MQTT, keeps a local on-premise cache for unstable connections, and stores historical data in secure big-data storage.

Customers can choose shared AWS, dedicated AWS, or on-premise deployment depending on security and cost needs.

    • Fleet analytics across multiple locations
    • Automated alerts to reduce hardware downtime
    • AI-based predictive maintenance and anomaly detection
    • Shared cloud, dedicated cloud, or on-premise deployment options

EDC RELIABILITY

Industrial telemetry and remote control made reliable through EDC technology

The mission-critical part of this platform was production continuity.

Using EDC, we focused on critical telemetry flows, remote control paths, timing-sensitive checks, and failure-prone machine operations.

  • Secure remote machine access with critical timing and response checks
  • Duplication of critical operations and calculations to reduce failure impact
  • Local on-premise cache lets the system keep working during unstable internet connection
  • Layered security with reverse SSH, IP whitelists, data segregation, and rotating encryption keys

AI FEATURES

  • Predictive maintenance from telemetry anomaly detection
  • LLM-assisted support for faster troubleshooting
  • Automated anomaly reports and consumables refill prediction
